| Heatsink Power Attenuator |

| I designed and built this attenuator as a project intended as a low cost alternative to purchasing one of the attenuators currently on the market. The design originated with a simple schematic I found while surfing the net, though it was heavily moddified to begin with, than redesigned and modified a couple of additional times. This power attenuator uses both resistive and reactive action to attenuate the power from the guitar amp before it goes on to the speaker, allowing me to turn my amp up so the vacume tubes can warm up the sound but still keep the volume down to reasonable levels. It converts the energy that would normally go out to the speaker into heat and dissipates it into the atmosphere through venting. It is completely passive and requires no additional power source. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The amount of attenuation is contiously variable and is not limited to certain pre-selected settings. This allows the freedom to choose the amount of attenuation that is best for each situation. I use it as the Master Master Volume. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Side mounted fans move air into the case and push it forward where it can exit through the top vents, carrying heat away with it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
