| I didnt think Id write about this trip, and I didnt for the first couple of days here. We had planned on going to Colorado to meet our 4-wheeln club members, and spend the week wheeln there. Hump from Utah was going to meet us there as well. It was quite a disappointment when we decided to cancel this trip. More so, it was something that happened just before we were due to leave, and had to let Hump know late after we had talked and planned this for several months. However, we had to fix Genny (generator) when she ate dirt and quit about three weeks ago. Then a week later she took a bigger dump, and due to the big expense of having to fix Genny, we felt we had to cancel this longer trip for a shorter one and that is less expense. It was a little difficult to get as exited about this trip as I had been for the last three months looking forward to Colorado, wheeln, and seeing my dear friend Humper. So still wanting to do something, here we are. As it is turning out, we are having one hella good time. We left Saturday, August 6th and arrived here at Mt. Shasta Ski and Board Park. | |||||||||||||

| Were here because Kurt has a Frisbee Golf Tournament going on up here at the ski resort. We got in late afternoon Saturday. We parked and got setup, and shortly thereafter Kurt showed up. We are parked in a lower parking lot and everyone else is up above in the higher parking lot and closer to the lodge, where all the activity is going on. Theres a restaurant, and a separate bar with a large patio area of tables and chairs. Thats where they meet, have contests to give away shirts and Frisbees and such. This event is sponsored by Full Sail brewery out of Oregon. There must be a couple hundred players here. All ages to late forties, but mostly younger guys and some ladies. Everyone is quite friendly and seems to get along extremely well. This evening we cooked up a nice prime rib steak and some veggies for dinner. About 9:00PM we headed up to the lodge where they have a band playing for the evening. Wow, what a good band they were too! Theyre called The T club, and hail from southern Oregon. Well look them up on the net and continue this discussion then. Anyway, they played to 1:00am, and me and Patty danced our butts off all night. We had a great time partying here. The air is cool at night and not too hot during the day. Were at 5.500 feet, with views of Mt. Shasta, which were sittn on, and Mt. Lassen to the south. Shasta is a littler over 14,000 feet and Lassen stands better than 10,000 feet. It is a beautiful area with a night full of stars. |

| August 7, 2005. Its Sunday, and the plan today is to ride the ski lift up to the top of the mountain with Kurt and his group to watch them play the course. The course is quite difficult due to the mountain terrain. Kurt recently turned Pro with the National Disk Golf Association so hes playing this course three times and Sunday is the last round, having played two the day before. So these boys are pretty beat up from the first two rounds, and then partying last night to face another round today is not making many happy faces around here first thing this morning. We got to the top for the first hole about 9:30am and everyone teed off. The first hole is over 800 feet almost straight down the other side of this mountain. Riding the lift up here, we had ascended 1,100 feet from camp. We walked the course with Kurts group and enjoyed the boys company. We got back down around 1:30PM. It was quite the hike, but at least it was all down hill. We had packed some lunch to take with us and ate it along the course so when we got back we just hung out at the motorhome. Spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful views. Most everyone left here about 6:00PM, and by 7:30 we are the only ones here. A manager type guy came by to let us know they were closing and locking the gates shortly. We asked if we could stay for the night? He didnt have a problem with that, but wanted us to know they locked the gates at night so we wouldnt be able to leave until the next day, which was even better for us. Now we had the whole place to just ourselves, and with the gates locked we knew no one else could get in. Perfect! We had a chicken dinner tonight (BBQ), and opened a bottle of Merlot, sat back and watched a movie called Hitch. It was a good light hearted movie. I didnt think Id like it, but I did. It was pretty funny. After the movie Patty and me went out to our lounge chairs and gazed up onto the vast jungle of stars in the sky. We sat there fully reclined and watched two satellites pass. Then the moment Patty hoped for arrived. We saw the biggest shooting star. It was huge and streaked across the night in bright, and brilliant splendor. It was a terrific show! Having seen these satellites tonight made me think back 30 years ago, when I lived in Neola Utah, Hump and I had seen something in the sky moving radically one night back then in 1974. At the time we thought of the possibility of having seen a UFO. Now, 30 years later I realize it was a satellite then as well. I wonder if Hump remembers that evening? Well, we turned in shortly after this show. We were pretty tired, and satisfied with a fine meal, a little wine, and a good movie topped off with a great light show. We got to sleep about 10:00PM. |
