Next, we stopped at a winery in town. Its open every Saturday from noon until 3:00pm! We toured this small building and tasted some wine, bought four bottles and headed over to Joe and Joyces cattle ranch. |

They were branding some spring calves, and I thought Patty might enjoy seeing this procedure. Well, we got there too late to see the operation, but Joe gave Patty and me a good tour of the ranch and the equipment they use. Then we sat inside his cabin and had some beers. This ranch is Joe and Joyces love and hobby. They were great people to meet. Joyce works in a bank in town, and Joe works for the school also, which it seems like everyone we met did also. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the gentlemen that owned the winery he is also the music teacher at the school. We left there sometime in the afternoon and headed back to the bird farm. |

Steve Humprey from Neola was there to visit for the night. I dont think Hump and Jim have seen each other for about 10 years maybe more! Patty and me whipped up our spaghetti dinner wed brought with us and fed the group. It was a good evening as you might imagine. Once again, Jim and I were the last standing, and that was until about 2:00am. |

Sunday, May 1st - The next morning Lem Potter and his friend named Pearl came up from Lyman. Jim and Lem hadnt seen each in 35 years. I had stayed in touch with Lem myself over the last 8 years, and weve been friends for 35 years ourselves. Hump had never met Lem. Now Hump had to go back to Neola to tend a couple of oil wells he monitors, and check on his animals, but would meet us in Moab on Tuesday. We said goodbye to Steve, and spent the morning watching the race from Talladega Alabama, which my boy Jeff Gordon won (again). We left this Sunday afternoon following Lem and Pearl to spend the night at Lems daughters place in Lyman. Lem lives in Mokolome Hill near us, but hes been remodeling this house for his daughter and son-in-law for the past 1- years, and this is where hes been since leaving the Gold Country.. We drove about 2 hours through several quaint little towns. Manti is one where there is a Mormon temple, and is quite beautiful. We got to Lyman and toured the house Lem has been working on, which was quite unique and beautiful. Lem is quite the artist with rock. This is a grand old home that started out as a cabin in the 1800s. Theres about 20 acres on this once was a dairy farm. Patty cooked us up some calamari steaks and black beans. She went to bed at a decent hour, and Lem and I stayed up talking. Got in about 2:00am and woke up the next day at 10:00am. |
