| Here we are in late spring and winter wont go away! Our plan is to leave at 8:00am or at least by 9:00am on Thursday. Not bad, we got out at 10:00am, and only had to turn around to go back home for an I forgot something, only one time. Weve done this as much as five times in the past. As we left, it was a drizzling rain and a little on the cool side. Heading up I- 80 towards Reno, we encountered a light snow. We got up to Sparks, and stopped at a TA truck stop for fuel. Took on 211 gallons and spilt about two of them on the driveway. A young Hawaiian guy comes a runnn to shut off our pump and starts freaking out about the spill. He told us he had to call HAZMAT to clean it up and that it would cost us about $600. I said, no way are we paying that. I offered to clean it, but in the end he said hed do us a favor and do it for $75. I said, how about $50? He came back with $30. We probably got scammed, but time is of the essence. We left the TA and turned south on Highway 50 off I-80, in the town of Fernley. We stopped here for lunch at 2:00pm. We had a great lunch in Jakes Restaurant within some casino (of course). Patty had a Philly Cheese steak, and I a Rueben. Both were good. Now, with our bellies and the bus full we headed east on the loneliest highway in America. There is really nothing exiting to report for the rest of the drive today. Ol School did us good and just purred along all day. We rolled into the town of Austin Nevada in the late afternoon, and stopped at the Little Bluebird Mine. |

| This is a custom jewelry shop with rocks, antiques, and gifts. Patty bought some sterling silver jewelry with orange stones. It was compete with earrings, necklace, and a ring. Very pretty stuff in this store. All family made. It is worth a stop if you come through here. Just east of this little town maybe two miles, and on your left going east is the Toiyabe National Forest. Its mostly cedars, but theres a free campground there. It was closed on this trip, but wed stayed there back in 2001 on our way to the races in Phoenix. I imagine the inclement weather has something to do with it being closed this time of year. We continued on to the town of Eureka Nevada. I had looked up campgrounds on the Internet for this town, and found a listing for an RV park. I had printed one out thats on Buel Street, but if you come here, be warned it had room for only one vehicle! Yes, one, and it was filled up. Ha ha ha. Thats what I call a small business |

| Anyway, we found another place that had about 10 spots on the east side of town. All full hookups with 50amp power for $15.00. Not bad with pull-through spaces to boot. The old man running the place tried to give us change for a $20 twice, but we let him know hed done that already. Nice guy, but really pretty old. We get settled in and watching the tube when it starts snowing. Were about 6,400 feet and the temperature expected to drop to 28 degrees. It snowed a couple of hours, and was amazingly beautiful. The outside porch light created a light show with the snow that I might describe as this; imagine someone on the roof of your motorhome with a huge grinder, grinding steel, and the sparks are flying off the roof down to the ground, streaking past your window. Thats what the snow resembled through this light. It was quite a sight. So we set the thermostats on a pleasant temperature, and headed off to bed about midnight. We passed on dinner and had some popcorn instead. | |||||||||||||||||

| Friday, April 29th - Its now 6:00am and the sky is looking clear with just a few clouds. Appears to be a nice day ahead. Weve got about seven hours drive today to make Mt. Pleasant Utah. That last stretch of Hwy 50 is truly the loneliest highway. It is way too straight and boring. We got into Berlins Bird Farm, as its known, in the afternoon. Got parked next to Jim and Pattys house and had an evening of beer and laughs. Jim and I hung on until sometime late. |

| Saturday, April 30th - We slept in until about 9:30am. Thats pretty good. Jim shows up at our bus about 10:00am and asked if I wanted to go to the post office with him. So sure I went. We stopped at a gas station an old friend named Neil was working in, and said howdy. Then we headed out of town to Don Walkers shoe business. Jim had some custom inserts built for some problem he has with his feet. Don was an interesting guy. Builds cowboy boots for personal orders only. I guess he sells these all over the country, and has a reputation for the quality of his work. Hes also a hunter and had a mountain lion hed shot stuffed and mounted on a branch of a tree he attached to his store wall. Heres a picture of that. | |||||||||||||||||

| We left there, and went back to the house to pick up Patty (my Patty), and we commenced on a tour of Mt. Pleasant. Including the Wasatch Academy, a private high school that Jim has worked for yearss for. Let me tell you this place is class and like a college campus. They have kids from all over the world attending here at $30K a year! The campus and dorms were very old classy buildings. Jim maintains these buildings with a crew working for him. Impressive! | |||||||||||||||||
