THE NEW RIVER TRAIN - 2008
On October 18, 2008, I, and two friends from the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, served as Car Hosts on the world famous New River Train Excursion.  It was the 42nd year that the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society, of which we were members, has sponsored this fabulous ride.
This year's train was 27 passenger cars long, made up of Amtrak coaches and many private cars.  Three Amtrak P42DC  4250 HP units pulled our train at speeds of over 70 MPH at times.  We departed from the former C&O Railway depot at Huntington, WV and traveled thru some of the most spectacular fall scenery along the Kanawha and New rivers, ending at Hinton WV.  Read more at this website:  www.newrivertrain.com
The following pages contain my photos, except as noted,  taken from mostly aboard the train, with a few from our layover in Hinton.  Click on photos to enlarge.
