MORE HOCKING VALLEY SCENIC RAILWAY PHOTOS
The following photos of the Santa Train were taken on Saturday, December 6, 2008, by Todd Atkinson and are used with his permission. Click on any photo to see an enlarged view.
Above & right - Engine 5833 loads passengers and is preparing to depart the Nelsonville depot with the early Santa Train. New fallen snow adds to the "Christmasy" charm of the event.
Left - approaching Laurel Road crossing as the snow flies!  Below - train passes the Hocking Canal Lock #19 historic site on it's way west toward Logan, Ohio..
Left & right - train passing the Historic Haydenville Depot built in 1903 and sadly in a state of disrepair.  The building is, however, on the National Register of historic places and hopefully can someday be fully restored.
Above - the train passes over a small deck girder bridge and stream as it approaches MP 53 which is the farthest west that trackage of the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway reaches.  It is fifty-three miles from the former Columbus, Ohio Union Station.
