John 8:32 says "And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free" Praise God for this promise. The key point is that the truth is what will set us free. The trouble is, Satan's desire is to keep you from knowing the truth. His most stategic plan against you is one of deception and lies. If he can keep us from the truth, he can keep us from being free. So where do we find the truth? Ultimately, in God's Word. However, I also learned firsthand this week that God will also reveal the truth to you through His people as well. When one of God's servants give you "truth" they are able to back up everything they say with scripture. This is where my testimony starts, God used a person and then other people to help me to see a truth that I was missing and that truth set me free.
I was at a Monday night prayer meeting at our church. And I was walking around for awhile praying in our sanctuary. Then I laid down, face first in one of the pews and began to pray to the Lord. I was struggling with an issue all day long that had kept me in bondage for that entire day. Looking back on that struggle, that one issue was just a symptom of a root problem that I had within me. As I prayed, I asked the Lord to clear my mind and to burn the images that I had within. You see, I was being troubled over a dream that I had the night before. When I woke up that morning, I gave it over to the Lord, but I still was unable to rid myself of the images of that dream. I was tormented the entire day by it and unable to think clearly and even focus on my work or even the voice of the Lord. Remember, if Satan can keep us from the truth he can keep us from being free....I was being held captive by this dream.
As I continued to pray in that pew, I still battled and could not seem to shake this image. I was oppressed by this and began to get somewhat depressed. I got up and began to say goodbye to everybody and I was just going to go home and be by myself with God. ***Let me add a side note, when you are feeling the way I was feeling and then you decide that you are going to try to be by yourself, even with God, it is probably best to do the opposite and surround yourself with godly people.....again, Satan wants you alone, so he can torment you alone and leave you with no encouragement or loving ears to listen.*** Anyhow, I had continued to say good-bye to others and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving. Right before I left, one of the people in the sanctuary gave me a sheet of paper and said "I am suppose to give this to you, please keep an open mind about it." I said "okay" and left.
I got in my car and started home. As I was driving I began to read what was on this sheet of paper, and as I read, I began to cry. The answer to my prayer was within the words on that paper. On that paper was a series of scriptures that the person who gave them to me felt led of God to tell me. I turned around and went back to the church. I approached this person and asked to speak with them. A couple of people came out and talked with me about what was on that paper, which was in direct line with my prayer for God to burn the images in my mind that came from my dream the night before.
As I opened up to the people I was talking to, the Lord used them to reveal to me that I was being attacked by an ungodly spirit. In the short, I was able to pray with a couple of the guys and obtain freedom from this spirit. I was refreshed by the blood of Jesus, and I was delivered from something that has been tormenting me perhaps from as far back as my child-hood.
There is freedom in the truth, and we can know the truth from the Word of God.
