Be able to compare/contrast the general characteristics of acoelomate worms, pseudocoelomate worms, coelomate worms, molluscs, and arthropods.  This includes body symmetry, segmentation, body plan, body organization, digestion, reproduction, circulatory, respiratory, etc.

 

Know the major differences among the Acoelomate worms: Dugesia, Schistosoma, Liver Flukes, Tapeworms, and Ribbon Worms.  Know the following nematodes (pseudocoelomate worms): Ascaris, Trichinella, Pinworm, Hookworm. Know the differences among the Coelomate worms: polychaete worms, oligochaete worms, leeches, Onychophorans.

 

Know how to distinguish the different molluscs: chitons, gastropods, scaphopods, bivalves, and cephalopods. Know the differences among Nautilus, Cuttlefish, Squid, and Octopus.

 

Know how to distinguish the different arthropods: trilobites, chelicerates, crustaceans, uniramians.  Know the differences among the following chelicerates: spiders, harvestmen, ticks/mites, and scorpions.  Know the differences among the following crustaceans: branchiopods, copepods, barnacles, isopods, and decapods. Know the differences among the following uniramians: millipedes, centipedes, insects.
