Dear 1108 Students: Below is the point scale you can use to calculate your grades:
A=720 points
B=640 points
C=560 points
D=480 points
Each lecture exam was worth 90 points. So, if you were given a grade sheet in class, it has a number showing the total points you have minus your lowest exam grade. This gives you a total you can use to subtract from your desired point total to see if taking the final exam is worth it for you.
Example: My grade sheet says B-640 points. This means that you currently have a B average if you choose not to take the final exam. If you would like to earn an A in the course, proceed as follows.
720 points – 640 points = 80 points.
This means you would need to earn 80 out of 90 points on the final exam to make an A in the course.
If your grade seems unreasonable to you or you are still confused! I am available in my office Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 12:00, or I can meet you by appointment. You may also arrange to meet me to pick up any of your graded assignments and/or journals.
Thanks, and have a great summer!
