Week Five: Jesus: Model of Faith, Model of Humanity

1) One paragraph summary of the key idea summarizing the topic of the week.

Even if we look at Jesus just on the human level, we can find many insights that Jesus' life can offer to our Faith just through his human qualities. His teachings also can give us immense insight into how to live a successful life. Thomas Jefferson recognized the incredible qualities and genius in Christ's teachings when he wrote the Jefferson Bible which explored the moral teachings of Jesus and looked at the man just on the human level. If we model our lives after this incredible man, whether or not he is God, he can lead us to be great people with strong morals.

2) List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week.

  1. First, I want to remember the poems "Pied Beauty" by Gerard Manley Hopkins and "i thank You God for most this amazing day" by e.e. cummings. I want to remember these poems so that I can remember that the world is charged with the granduer of God, and God can be found in all things. Also, I want to remember these poems so that I can remember to thank God everyday for his blessings upon me.
  2. Second, I want to remember Fr. Joe Tetlow's ways to pray with scripture. I want to remember these ways so that I can use them in reading scripture so that I can come to grow closer to God and understand his teachings.
  3. Finally, I want to remember Monika Hellwig's article concerning finding God in all things. I want to remember this Jesuit idea of spirituality so that I can end up looking to put this idea of finding God into my life.

4) One good question you should keep with you to ponder.

5) What should you try to do to make you a better person from this study.

I think there are a few things that I can do to make myself a better person from this study. First, I think that I can make myself a better person from this study by recognizing the great gift of the little things that I usually take for granted such as life. I think that if I start thanking God for my blessings more, I would become a better person. Also, I think I can make myself a better person from this study by serving the least among me more. I think that I could do more service in the community and I hope that in the future, I will be able to do this more. I think that by doing these two things in particular, I would make myself a better person.
