Assignment 1: The Human Condition
“My Human Condition”

Assignment: You completed a web site on your idea of the human condition. How does this all apply to you here and now? Reflect upon a few of the most important aspects of the human condition that affect you and what are the effects of this upon you.

As part of the human race, the human condition is something that plays a major role on me and my life. I am constantly bombarded by the affects of this condition, and I constantly am limited by some of its affects. One of the major affects of the human condition that plays a role on me is concupiscence. Daily, I am tempted to sin. Even though I know that I don't want to sin, I am sometimes drawn from my good will into an action I regret later. This part of my human condition is always tugging on me in my life. Consequently, I have to be always aware of this tendency in my life if I want to follow God. As a result, this affect of the human condition affects me daily. Another major affect of the human condition that is constantly affecting me is a warped intellect. Many times in my life, despite knowing that my actions would be wrong, I have followed my emotions in my action rather than my intellect. For example, when I was playing basketball last year, my team started to trash talk the other team after we began to pull away and they began to take cheap shots on us. Although I knew that what we were doing was wrong, my emotions sucked me in with the rest of our team, and I began to trash talk the other team. As a result of my warped intellect, I did something I really did not want to do. As this example shows, however, the human condition affects me through my warped intellect too. Similarly, death plays a role in my life. With death situations present at a few times throughout my life, my life has been affected by this part of the human condition. Whether it is having to let go of my grandpa who died a few years ago or whether it is having to be cautious on some of the things I do for fear of death, death also plays a role in my life. An example of death influencing my life for fear of losing it happens many times during the day, but it especially is present when I drive. For example, as a result of the possibility of death, I know that I should go at reasonable speed on the highway rather than go as fast as the car lets me. In the same way, I do not jump off the top of my dad's work building no matter how fun it may be because a 31-story jump would certainly kill me. As a result, the human condition of death does play a major role on my life. Consequently, I am always affected by the effects of the human condition whether I am consciously aware or not. No matter whether I think about them or not, they are always affecting my life choices.
