The
Temple City of Madurai is replete with the grace of Divine Mother Meenakshi.
A centre of holy pilgrimage from time immemorial, it shines as the
cultural capital of Tamil Nadu.
In
1893 Swami Vivekananda visited Madurai for the
first time. During his second visit in 1897 he gave here an
inspiring talk, WHAT WE OUGHT TO KNOW. Holy Mother Sri Sarada
Devi too has visited Madurai. It is very significant that many of Sri Ramakrishna's
sannyasin disciples—Swamis Brahmananda,Shivananda,Ramakrishnananda,
Premananda,
Niranjanananda,
Subodhananda, Vijnanananda and Abhedananda have visited Madurai.
The
present Sri Ramakrishna Math, Madurai, was affiliated in May 1987 as an
official branch centre of Sri Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math.
Service
projects to be undertaken
(1) Nitya
Puja Scheme: Funds are required for Nitya puja, celebration of different
festivals and for the maintenance of the temple and its surroundings.
(2) Educational
Services: It is proposed to purchase the land adjacent to the Math in order
to take up educational work.

A Free Tuition
Centre for poor children from primary and higher secondary Schools is to
be opened. This will function from 5.00-7.00 p.m. daily.

Uniforms notebooks
and stipends to be distributed to poor children.

A Vivekananda
Youth Association for youths to be started to impart culture, and help
in their personality development.

A Vivekananda
Balaka Sangha for children to be started to inculcate cultural values
and impart man-making and character-building education to the young ones.
(3) Charitable
Dispensary: Funds are required to purchase land and build a well-equipped
dispensary
for the benefit of the under-privileged.
(4) Public
Library: With a capacity to cater to 200 readers is planned. Land
and building are needed for this project and also to add valuable books
to the library, funds are required.
(5) Monastic
quarters, Math office, Bookstall and Staff quarters are also to come up.
We require Rs.3 crores to complete the above urgent projects in the service
of the poor, the lowly and downtrodden.
Sri Ramakrishna’s universal message of love and peace and Swami Vivekananda's
message of Practical Vedanta-Serving God in Man- are very much needed in
the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, where casteism is still rampant.
We appeal to the public, business houses, philanthropic Trusts and Institutions
to come forward and donate liberally for the noble cause. We appeal
to every one of you to give us a helping hand. Tiny droplets make
an ocean. Please contribute your mite.
Endowment donations can be made for any of the above mentioned Seva Schemes
in the name of any of your dear and near ones.
Donations, big or small, will be gratefully acknowledged. Donations
are exempted from income tax under 80G.
