History
Trinity University Organist and Music Professor Dr. David Heller recounts some of the history of the instrument...
"The organ and the Chapel came into existence at
the same time - through a gift from George and Margarite Parker. The organ
was origiannly built by Austin Builder, Otto Hoffman. It was the largest instrument he had ever built, and it's tonal
design was in conjunction with my predecessor, Campbell Smith.
"When I arrived in 1986, I was asked to submit a report on the condition of the
organ to the Administration, and that report has served as the basis for
all of the renovations since then. The first thing we did was put the
organ into English, rather than all French for the stops, added a solid
state combination action built by ICMI, and then multi-plexed the entire
system. Over the years we have taken out some useless stops, added
others, re-voiced and re-scaled the Great and Pedal divisions, replaced
the entire Bombarde reed chorus, added flues to the Bombarde division,
etc."
