Takani Megumi
| This young doctor runs into Kenshin and Sano in a gambling house one day, after she has run away from Kanryu. Knowing the secret to making more effective opium, she's forced to work for him. Later Kanryu threatens to hurt everyone at the Kamiya Dojo so she goes back and tries to kill him. The attempt is unsuccessful and she's imprisoned in a tower. The Kenshin-gumi come, and after fighting Aoshi and four Oniwabanshu (and Kanryu), they finally manage to rescue her. Given a new life, she's now Doctor Genzai's assistant. |

Her family disappeared in the war, leaving the young Megumi behind. She has been lonely ever since, before Kenshin shows her the right way to make up for the lives her opium has destroyed. That's why she has feelings for him. But she isn't trying to come between Kaoru and Kenshin. She knows how much she means to him. I think the flirting is just to tease Kaoru.

With her fox ears popping up and her ohohoho laugh, you wouldn't believe she's such an expert in medicine. But actually she can cure almost anything. She's very helpful to have around fighting grounds. (She's also helpful when it comes to shaking people out of some goodbye-shock.) She's the one who talks some sense into Kaoru and get her to go to Kyoto, you know. Megumi is no ordinary lady. Without her, a lot of people would have died. She usually calls Sano a fool for not taking proper care of himself, but she keeps tending his hand again and again. She uses her medical skills to help everyone, including wounded villains. She really has the heart of a doctor. |
