Yukishiro Enishi

Enishi on a rare occasion when he is caught sanely reflecting      He is strong, he is evil, and he is out to get Battousai! ^^;. First of all, we can't even call Enishi a bad guy. Of course, he tries to kill Kenshin, but he has a very good reason to.
Enishi is the most frightening enemy Kenshin has ever faced. He doesn't strive for power, wealth, fame or even acceptance. All he wants is revenge. He is cold-blooded, hate-filled, and does not care about anyone including himself, and most of all he is, well, insane.
To be truthful, his insanity is his strength. He has this unfading image of Tomoe in his head and "as long as my sister smiles at me," he feels no pain. His sword technique is outrageously wild and we can never know what to expect. The unbearable grief of losing his sister has turned his hair white and done some nerve-wrecking (or rather nerve-growing) changes to his body. So he can move twice as fast as other people and hear far too well. With these abilities, and while Kenshin is in a guilt-wrecked condition, he has more than one chance to kill Kenshin. But, no, he doesn't want that. He wants Kenshin to suffer.
When I said cold-blooded, I really meant it. His plots and plans are frightfully well thought out and his mind games are simply horrifying. He uses people to achieve his goal and dispose of them when they are of no more use. He has no love for the world or himself, and lives only to be bitter. However, no one can hate him.
The paradox of Enishi is that although he loves his sister so much and can do anything for her, he just doesn't understand her at all. If you take all those fancy sword techniques away, he is just a very confused soul who had a harsh childhood and therefore developed hatred for the world. You can be afraid of him and sympathize with him at the same time.
Anyway, Enishi fangirls can be ensured that he is now in good hands - the hands of the old man at the rakuninmura - his father. (It sounds rather strange in words, but I'm not kidding!) He just has to learn the same thing Kenshin does: forgiveness - forgiving life and forgiving himself.
