If you are falling in love with a "friend" over on the internet---without directly connecting with the person with your other senses---you are really just falling in love with an image of that person you created in you head.
Note that an imagination is not a "bad thing" at all. No, no, no, no, no. Say, you imagine a city in a desert, and from this imagination, you build a city in a desert: In other words, you can transform your imagination into reality, the real world. But until you do something about your imagination, it is inaccessible to anyone else, and that's why it is fake.
