James Franklin Stewart - born - 4 Nov 1839, Rush Co., Indiana

Married three times:
1. 30 Aug 1860 - Hester Manlove, Rush Co., Indiana
2. 18 Sep. 1864 - Harriet A. Winterrowd, Effingham, Illinois
3. 19 Oct. 1879 - Nancy Ann Thomas, Ellis Co., Texas
James and his first wife had no known children. After her death , Dec. 1861, he
joined the Indiana Cavalry and fought in the Civil War. At the age of 22, he enlisted as a
private on 28 March 1862 at Aurora, Indiana. He served in the Indiana Cavalry, Company
�F�, Third Regiment, under Captain F.W. Mofitt. While serving on duty as a picket he
received an injury to his lungs which rendered him for further service. On 24 March ,
1863 he was medically discharged.
After his discharge, he moved to Winterrowd, Illinois and began farming. There
he married his second wife. Harriet. They had four children:
1. Ada Elsie (Elpa) , b. 12 Aug., 1865, Effingham, Illinois
m. Marion Talleson, four children.
2. Myrtie Nevada , b. 12 Dec. 1867, Effingham, Illinois
m. Ulysess Grant Lisman, Seven Children.
3. Lourean (Louie) , b. 22 Dec. 1870 , Effingham, Illinois
m. David Sherman Lisman, four children.
4. Emery Franklin , b. 17 Aug. 1873, Winterrowd, Illinois
m. Nannie Lisman, six children.

Because of James� lung condition, he found it necessary to move South to a dryer
climate. He and family loaded on a wagon train in the fall of 1873 and headed for Ellis
Co., Texas. Where he relocated. Although it is not confirmed, it is suspected that James
and family traveled with his father-in-law George Washington Winterrowd and family.
Harriet died shortly after (12 Dec. 1878) in Ennis, Texas leaving James with four small
children.
James remarried 19 Oct. 1879 Nancy Ann Thomas in Ellis Co., Texas.
They had five children:
