Kick in the Head

Here is another admission. I can’t really get into anybody else’s head. I assume that no one else can either. However as I have never gotten into anyone else’s head I have not had the opportunity to check. This is an amazing thing to me. Despite the apparent inability of the human race to jump in and out of each other’s heads we are able to communicate in some fashion. At least it seems that way to me. Throughout the course of my life so far I have had a few revelations which I will not discuss right now. What I will discuss is their relative suddenness. What exactly I am getting at? One of the things, in my experience, that gets your (read my) attention really quick is a swift kick to the head. So when I discuss a revelation a.k.a. epiphany that I’ve had I am forced to admit that they don’t actually hit me like a kick to the head. I might say “As I stood there or rather swayed there it hit me, not really like a kick to the head, but still pretty suddenly, that....”What occurred to me? Do you really care? In all likelihood about a third of the people who read this will already know. Now the questions are: what percentage of people have really ever received a good kick to the head? And what is the proper metaphor for this experience?
