FLORENCE AND ANATOLY FLORENCE I've asked Freddie to throw the game. ANATOLY You did what? How could you do that, you know I don't want him to. FLORENCE You must understand, I had to do it for my father. You know you can't beat Freddie, it was the only thing I could do! ANATOLY So you don't believe in me anymore either! How could you take sides with Molokov? FLORENCE I'm not taking sides! I'm doing what I have to do, my father has a chance of freedom. I can't deny him that. [Svetlana approaches them, but says nothing.] ANATOLY Florence, I can't cope with all of this anymore. I need some time, some space. I can't concentrate when you're around, you've ruined my game! FLORENCE But I had to do it, you must understand, I had no choice. ANATOLY You�ve just told me I could never beat him, what would you want with a looser! Please, just leave me alone! [Florence runs away, almost in tears. Svetlana goes to touch Anatoly, but he pulls away and leaves her standing alone.] ARBITER Who'd ever think it? Such a squalid little ending ... ... |
