| MOLOKOV
I wanted to surprise you, I thought youd be pleased. [Anatoly storms out.] [Florence has arrived back in the hotel gardens. The scene changes to the gardens as Anatoly joins her.] ANATOLY Florence! FLORENCE Why didn't you tell me your wife was coming? ANATOLY I didn't know, this is the first I've heard about it. FLORENCE Another of Molokov's tricks? ANATOLY There's something else you need to know. It's about your father. Molokov says that he isn't dead. He says he's being held prisoner in Russia. FLORENCE What? MOLOKOV He assures me it's true - and if I remain loyal to Russia he'll arrange for his release. They may even let him leave Russia. FLORENCE I don't believe it. It's a lie! MOLOKOV Could it be true? FLORENCE I suppose it could, but he's bluffing - isn't he? ANATOLY I don't know. YOU AND I FLORENCE This is an all too familiar scene ... ... [Back in his hotel room, Molokov gathers his cronies around him and reassures them that he has everything under control.] MOLOKOV Comrades, why are you looking so worried? There is no chance of our champion defecting now. I have made certain of that. As for him retaining his title I am making arrangements for that as well, so you see - it's a time for celebration. SOVIET MACHINE [The following day Svetlana arrives in Bangkok. Molokov takes her to see Anatoly in his hotel room, now presumably to be hers too.] MOLOKOV Good morning Anatoly, I trust you slept well. I had a wonderfully peaceful night. [Svetlana moves toward Anatoly, she kisses him and they embrace lightly.] |
