We said we`d show you our �digs� and are certainly prepared to do that, literally. With a little help from our friends, we`ll take you on a trip 'way back in time' and show you what has been preserved to be enjoyed today.
THE EARLIEST VISITORS
The earliest visitors to Sabino Canyon are believed to be hunter-gatherers of the Clovis culture, about 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. As the climate grew warmer in Southern Arizona, the Cochise culture became dominant, about 8000 B.C.
After the Cochise, at about AD 200, came the
Hohokham.
Archaeologists are uncertain of the
origin
of the Hohokham people who were primarily, farmers. The Hohokham began to disappear about AD 1450 due either to climate changes, disease and, or, social problems.
The Pima, Tohono O`odham and Apache peoples were next to inhabit the area, and are still here today.
