Why folders?
by Bob Matter
After riding my folding bike for a few weeks it became apparent to
me that a folder is the ideal bike for living carfree in Chicagoland.
Here are ten reasons why.
-
If you are a multi-modal commuter and a bus pulls up without a rack you
can still board.
-
If you are a multi-modal commuter and a bus pulls up with a rack that is
full you can still board.
-
If you are a multi-modal commuter you can take your folder aboard CTA trains
during the restricted rush hour periods (M-F 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.)
-
If you are a multi-modal commuter you can take your folder aboard Metra
and the South Shore any time.
-
If you have a mechanical failure while on a folder you can board any of
the regional transit systems to get closer to home.
-
If you need to take a cab or catch a ride in an auto you can put your folder
in the trunk.
-
You might be able to bring your folder into some buildings instead of leaving
it locked outside for thieves.
-
You will probably be able to fit your folder inside your apartment or home,
no matter how small it is.
-
It is easier to hoist a folder with 16" or 20" wheels and navigate up and
down stairs than unruly 26" wheel bikes (folders fit in elevators
better too).
-
A folder increases your transportation options; you can mix cycling and
transit to suit the weather, your energy level, your schedule, etc.
