Cards of Holidays Past

My Balcony at Marina City 1990

This was the first card that I designed and mailed out.  This view was taken from my balcony at Marina City.  Since then they have built 77 West Wacker which now obscures the view.  I took a whimsical approach to having the balcony full of items that I didn't have.  The items seen here are just from my imagination.  I took the inspiration for the composition from Van Gogh's Starry Night.

I also don't think that the train set would survive the winds that typically swept across my balcony.  My patio furniture never did.

Lake Point Towers 1991

Lake Point is my favorite skyscraper in the city of Chicago.  This poetic expression in steel and glass is a tremendous presence on the lakefront.  I took the undulating facade and used it to convey a holiday greeting.  the winter scene in the foreground is just an imaginative scene that seemed appropriate for the composition.  And I don't think that anyone has ever skated on the Chicago River.
