Cantrell, James M.- His enlistment expired on Oct. 19, 1862. Double barreled
shotgun furnished by H. B. Boude. He enlisted in Co. A, 16th TN Inf. Co. A, 7th TN Calvary Bttl. Sumner Co. TNThe battalion was on duty scouting, guarding, and picketing Macon Co. TN and Allen and Monroe Co., KY and at Carthage,
guarding supplies for Gen. Zollicoffer. Then guarding the L&R railroad above Gallatin during the retreat from Bowling Green of the Confederate Army. Here they received a rather famous order, "To keep the Railroad open whether they could or not". Then the fighting in the battle of Shiloh, where a member of the
command received the surrender of Gen. Prentiss command.
