"Rites Held For Jim Tettleton"
Services held for County pioneer, succumbed at Age of 61
A final tribute was paid last Friday afternoon to Jim R. Tettleton, one of the well known and highly respect pioneers of Stephens County. Arrangements were in charge of Grooms & Rangeley Funeral Home, and services were held at the First Baptist Church, at 3 o'clock, with Rev. T.P. Haskins officiating. Interment was in the Duncan cemetery.
Mr. Tettleton, who was a resident of the Baird community about 12 miles west of Duncan, had passed away at his home at 7:30 o'clock Wednesday night. He had been ill for about two weeks, a portion of which time he had been in Duncan for treatment. His condition had apparently improved, and he returned to his home. He had eaten the evening Wednesday meal, and was seated on the edge of the bed talking with members of the family, when he suddenly dropped over dead. Heart trouble is said to be the cause of his death. He was a man 61 years of age.
Born November 2, 1866, in White Co., TN, he lived in that state until reaching manhood at which time he removed to TX. He came to this country in 1901, settling on a homestead in the new country, being open for settlement, and had since been a resident of what is now Stephens County. Long residence had given him wide acquaintance, and he was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Surviving are the widow and ten children: C. A. Tettleton, Mrs. Cleve Roberts, Mike Tettleton, Sallie Tettleton, and Mrs. Ben Williams, all of Duncan; Mrs. B. H. Roberts of Oil City; Boss Tettleton, John Tettleton, Richard Tettleton and Linna Tettleton all of Baird. Four brothers and four sisters also survive.
