shows Joseph purchasing 822 acres of land
about 1750. He and Anne had 5 children, the
oldest being George Valentine.
George Valentine was born May 24, 1702 in Hessen, Germany.
He arrived to America aboard the ship James Goodwill. His
marriage to Anna Barbara Stiess took place Aug. 24, 1723 in
Hessen, Germany. They had at least 4 children in the PA.
area. George died October 12, 1773 and is buried in the Old
Brick Church Cemetery in Guilford, NC.
George and Anna's oldest son was John Phillip, who was born
Feb. 20, 1730 in Oley, Berks Co, PA. He married a cousin,
Barbara Clapp, daughter of John Ludwig Clapp. George
recieved a McCullough Land Grant for 202 acres of land in
Guilford Co, NC on Sept. 11, 1762. His will was also filed
in Guiford Co. NC and he died Feb., 1798.
George and Anna's second son, Adam, was born Dec. 10, 1754
in Orange Co. NC. He was baptized May 26, 1776, at the Old
Brick Church. He married Emma Ruth Marley, daughter of
Adam and Rosanna Marley.
By 1785 Adam had moved to Sumner Co., TN where he is
listed with Captain Young's Company. He served as a juror
in Robertson Co, TN during the Aug. term of 1804. In
1807, "The settler who made a permanent footing in Union Co.
IL, was Adam Clapp, often called Old Clapp.", from the book
Pioneer Sketches.
Randolph Co., IL became his home by 1810 and is shown
serving jury duty, road duty and twice for illegal sale of
whiskey. In 1831, he moved to Alexander Co., IL where he
received a pension for his service in the Revolutionary War.
He had volunteered in the fall of 1776, whilw a resident of
Guilford, NC. He served in Capt. Henry Whitesall's Company,
Col. Alexander Martin's Regiment. He served 8 months. Adam
died Aug. 15, 1841 in Alexander Co., IL.
The third son of Adam and Emma was David. He was born Oct.
2, 1798 in Knox Co., TN. He and Elizabeth LAWRENCE,
daughter of long time family friend, William LAWRENCE.
The wedding took place in Union Co., IL, 1815.
In 1817, David and Elizabeth from IL. to Old Mller Co.,
AR, near the Red River, by George and Adam LAWRENCE which
were Elizabeth's Uncles. David joined the Wavell Colony
as one of 122 families who registed with Englishman, Arthur
G. Wavell, between 1826-1830 to settle in Red River Co.,
TX. David received his legal land claim in 1841.
In an 1840 Tax List he registed as having 25 cattle, 6
work horses and 1 metal clock. His move to Sulphur Springs,
Hopkins Co., TX took place by 1850. His real estate value
was 8200$ and personal property value was 5500$. David and
Elizabeth had 7 children. David died November 11, 1866 in
Sulphur Springs, TX. and is buried in the Clapp Cemetery
just off Hwy 154 north of Sulphur Springs.
On March 28, 1828, John was born to David and Elizabeth. He
was the fifth child. Eliza Y. McFARLAND be came his wife on
Sept. 24, 1850 in Red River Co., TX. In 1894, he recorded
he owned 489 acres of land with a value of 1979$. He died
January 26, 1900 and is also buried in the Clapp Cemetery,
near Sulphur Springs.

| Elisha married Josephine SMITH who stated she was from LU. and her mother was born in France. It was also reported that she enjoyed a good dip of snuff. She died in 1936 and is buried by her husband and one daughter in East Hill Cemetery, Roff, OK. |

Elizabeth was the first child of this family. She was called Lizzie. She married O.B. Byrd, a.k.a."Pap". At least four children were born to them, Valma, Alma, Obe and Onie. |

John W. was born Aug. 1876 in Hopkins Co., TX. Pontotac Co., OK Marriage records show he married Dovie GEERS who was 15 at the time. Dovie made an Inagrual Dress for Mrs. Rosevelt. They had at least one child, M.B., who made dentures for a living. John and Dovie are buried together in Memorial Park Cemetery, OKC, OK. |
