Description: This vehicle is sold now. When I sold it it was in very good condition. It looked and driove great. There was no rust on the body of the vehicle. I purchased it in spring 2005, from a developer with long highway trips, to be a safe dependable sedan for my wife and our two children. I took the car to a Mercedes Benz specialist, recommended to me by a member of MB club of America, and asked him to repair anything that needed attention in the vehicle from oil leaks to window motors to front end parts to even instruments lights. He used original MB parts on all repairs. I even purchased a missing tow hook cover from the dealer.
After about $3000 in repairs the vehicle is in very good condition. I have the bills for all of the repairs. The previous owner had recently replaced the Brakes, Tires, windshield, and Struts. I had some of these bills as well.
I bought the vehicle with 180K mi based on the experience of other owners that these sedans can accumulate many more miles when maintained.
This S420: This is not a common sedan. This S420 has some options that are not available on most new vehicles sold today. All options are in good working order. It has double pain door windows, integrated hands free cell phone, moon roof (works and no leaks), dual zone electronic climate control (air conditioner works), heated leather seats (leather looks new), After you close the door gently, it closes solidly automatically, it has too many other things to list. The interior looks new, and the seats look hardly used.
The engine, 4.2L V8, and transmission are in very good working order and deliver high torque to the road. This W140 (1996 S-class body) is an awesome comfortable and large German cruiser. Being wide and low to the ground with a heavy steel body it feels very solid and sure-footed on the highway. Averaging about 20 mpg combined, but this depends on your driving. The engine delivers a sweet note through the exhaust system when merging on the highway or passing. (The accelerator is not a toy, Please obey all traffic laws as I do).
The drive is extremely quiet but if you like sound then use the MB AM/FM radio with cassette, 6 CD changer- 6Ch weather band!
If you get a car like this, be prepared to answer questions about this king-size Mercedes Benz asked by strangers in the parking lots. This sedan turns heads everywhere you drive, especially from other (smaller class) Benz drivers. I am very sorry if I offended E-class and C-class owners I don't intend to. I also have to remove my hat for a Maybach, which is even a bigger MB tank.
Final note: This Mercedes Benz S420 will spoil you for any other sedan.
