TEACHING THE STORY
I think this is a good time for them to learn about a Torah besides for it beiing stuffed:) Bring in a real Torah (children's size) and open it up. the cover, mantle, crown, these are things the kids see. Teach them about it. *** make an edible Torah simply by putting two packs of winkies and wrapping a piece of felt around it.

The must be some way that you will feel the excitement in your class to receive the Torah. Counting down can be done in a number of ways. Through the whole sefirah or just like ten days before. Sefirah: make a mountain, (which the kids can paint) stick on flowers and each day at circle time, cross of one day. They can actually see themselves getting closer. Either tell them we are getting the torah or 'a surprise'. A few days before: make a long strip of paper for each child and number it downwards. As they come in, they can cut off the bottom number. (or by circle time)
The story of the mountains is a great lesson and a good time to talk about different sizes (Tall short fat skinny wide small). To say the story have different size bowels as a visual aid. To explain how 'Har sinai' was plain and then Hashem made it all pretty; Take an umbrella, make it stand some how and place a sheet over it. one side of the sheet should be plain (you can use butcher paper too) and the other half full of flowers. As you say the story, twist the umbrella around, so they can see what the mountain was, and what it became. To actally make the mountain, use a paper bowl turned over and painted brown. To make the 'luchos' on the top, you can use a straw cut in half or for a larger dimension, two toilet paper rolls. For younger children, just a suggestion, put a torah on top of the mountain, don't go into the then commandments and the torah as two different things. Decorate your mountain with grass and flowers (Can get stickers)
It is beautiful when you describe that Hashem gave us a present. It is important for the children to grow up with a love for Torah rather then a burden. To feel it, tell them how hashem wanted to give a present. Wrap up your class stuffed Torah and have the children unwrap it at circle time to feel the excitment.
