buddhist palm strike! *destroys an entire block*
Kung-Fu Hustle (2005) The movie is ridiculous... in the most positive way. This film boasts of some pretty zany humor and crazy violence. Well, you'd think that at least after seeing a scenes of black-and-white shots of people being axed in the head... in-between a dance interlude with Frank Sinatra music. Shanghai was in a dangerous time, the '30s, where gangs ruled. One of the most dangerous ones were the Axe Gang, a black-suited gang that wielded... axes. They were feared all over Shanghai, except for a slum in the outskirts that stubbornly refused to submit to them. Then comes our anti-hero, Sing, who was inspired by the Axe gang themselves to be a bad guy. He wreaks havoc when he recklessly poses as an Axe member and causes a riot between the real gang members and the people living in the slums. The latter... so happen to be strangely well versed in the art of kung fu. Which causes a real riot, indeed. Sparks fly with fight scenes as well choreographed as the ones from the Matrix's, sprinkled in with tons of special effects for a good mix. Oh, there's a love story there as well. Somewhere.
It's a fun romp of martial bravado, and a really funny film. Watch it, I say. Arr.
