A Tribute in Memory of:
Virgil W. 'Pete' Price
Originator and Owner of Riverside Camping since 1970, and Manager for 30 years, my father started Riverside in addition to working in the poultry contracting business, and driving a school bus. He still enjoyed spending time on the campground, visiting with friends who come back each  year to camp with us.  At 81, he was still active and worked part time as a Walmart greeter where he loved talking to people.  He still went fishing when he was able.
Although suffering some major health problems off and on since a massive heart attack at age 57, he always battled back and lived life to the fullest as if each day was his last.  On December 27, 2002, he suffered a heart attack that ended his life suddenly.  It was the way he wanted to go.
My dad grew up during the Great Depression here in Page County, VA, enlisted and  served under General George S. Patton during WWII in the 11th Armored Division.  His first conflict in WWII was in The Battle of The Bulge.  He was a proud veteran  who loved God,  country, family, and friends.    He was active in the church, an active member of the VFW and an active charter member of the local Ruritans.  He was a devoted fan of PCHS athletics.  He spent a big part of his life on or near the river.  He was loved by so many family members and friends from all walks of life.  My dad never knew a stranger.  As a kid, I never had to go further than our own living room to find a hero. I could have never asked for a better father or friend.  He will be missed by so many.  He was truly a member of "The Greatest Generation," and I will always cherish the time I spent with him and the time he had with my sons, Zach and Jordan.
Thanks for reading this tribute page, and please feel free to sign the guestbook.         Stan Price
