John Cadbury, a young Quaker (a religion) opened a grocery store in Birmingham, England. He was 22 years old. In his grocery store he sold coffee, tea, hops, mustard, cocoa and drinking chocolate. This business was the foundation of Cadburys.
1831
Business was good at John Cadbury's store, which was because of the increase in sales of cocoa and chocolate. The business was expanded to a rented warehouse and John Cadbury became a manufacturer of drinking chocolate and cocoa
1847
While moving the business into a bigger factory, John Cadbury takes his brother Benjamin into partnership. Then they are known as "Cadbury Brothers". The company receives a Royal Warrant, despite this, business was beginning to decrease in the mid 1850's, that was the company's most difficult time
1861
In 1861 John Cadbury retired, so his 25 and 21 year old sons Richard and George took on the challenge of continuing the business. Due to their hard work the Cadbury business survived. Because they were dissatisfied with their cocoa, they took a huge step, which had a huge bearing on their future wealth and could change the whole of the British cocoa business.
