| ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I do more architectural woodwork than anything else. This may be due to the fact that there is so much woodwork being done in homes these days, or it may be that the term "architectural woodwork" covers so much of what I do. I include fireplace mantles in this catagory. One of the main reasons I do so much of it is the extreme creativity it affords me. Many homes are large, and large or small, when I start it is like a blank canvas which, within certain parameters, I get to create something of beauty. Another reason is that I was trained early in my career to build homes of high quality by an extremely gifted and creative craftsman, who taught me to do things the old fashioned way, and to look at everything with the idea of making it the best it can be. And unique. I use very few of the standard moldings, as I make most of my own. I know how to build things right. I know what works and what doesn't. I still continue my education even today, studying everything from traditional furniture making to high tech factory production. The architectural woodwork that I do will be noticed by everyone who enters these homes. For no other reason than that, it is money well spent by the homeowner or builder, as everyone is impressed by the scale, detail, design, and quality of this work. It is one of the few areas in the home where the money spent actually shows completely. It can make a home unique unto itself, and no matter what size the home is, it takes it out of the "McMansion" catagory, as so many new homes seem to be in today. |

| MAHOGANY ENTRY DOOR UNIT & CLOSE UP OF DOOR PANEL SHOWING INLAID AFRICAN WENGE IN PANELS & RAISED MOLDINGS. I make entry doors with pegged mortise and tenon joints, and 1/4" marine ply between the panels, for maximum stability & weather resistance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| NEWEL POST. This post is red oak with maple burl on the faces of the raised panels and the top of the post, but when it was stained the almost black color of the rails and floor, it was too dark, so was then painted. Should be a nice surprise if someone ever strips off the paint! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| ELLIPTICAL ARCHED DOORWAY & MAHOGANY FIREPLACE MANTLE There are 11 of these arched doorways with fluted columns in this home, and also 3 distinctly different fireplaces. This small mahogany one in the den, a very large (14' tall) one of red birch in the great room, and a small painted one in the master bedroom sitting area. |

| Cherry Bar with Black Walnut Burl, Arched Doorways | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a photo of the bar that is on my home page, before it was stained and finished, and before the mirror or door glass was installed. I am showing it unfinished, as some of the details are more apparent in this photo. Notice the walnut flute grooves in the columns of the archway. The flutes are actually walnut, the columns cherry. Notice the panels under the arches. You can also see some of the detailing of the large columns on each side of the mirror space. This should give an idea of the scope of quality and detail I put into my work. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
