The primary health facilities of City of Iloilo are composed of 3 private and 2 government hospitals with 685 and 550 beds capacity, respectively. These hospitals are the privately-owed Iloilo Mssion hospital, St. Paul's Hospital and the Iloilo Doctor's Hospital, while the government-operated hospitals are the Western Visayas Medical Center and West Visayas State University Hospital.
These hospitals are backstopped by 152 private medical clinics, 57 specialized clinics (skin, family planning, nutrition, mental, etc.), 110 dental clinics, 54 bangay health stations/centers, 5 medical and 22 dental laboratories, 91 school clinics, 174 day care centers and one quarantine station. There are also 34 drugstores throughout the city.
The city boosts of 800 new registered physicians and 620 registered nurses, while the city government has 240 health personnel, 11 of which are physicians.
Based on the CY 1999 health indices, the ten leading causes of morbiidity and mortality are: pneumonia, diarrhea, bronchitis, diseases of the heart, influenza, TB, hypertension, malignant neoplasm, accident wound and gonorhea.
