Iloilo City has a total of 140.741 km. of roads, of which 99.41 km. is concrete, 37.79 km. asphalt, and 3.54 km. gravel roads. In terms of bridges, the city has 1,007 l.m. concrete bridges and 66 l.m. wooden/timber bridges. In 1999, there are 3,237 public utility jeepneys operating in the city, and 2,960 taxis. Private vehicles (all types) numbered 37,283 units and government-owned vehicles - 1,204 units.
One of the safest ports in the country is the Port of Iloilo, the principal port of entry to Western Visayas. It is strategically located with Guimaras Island forming as a natural protection against big waves and the elements. The port is divided into three major areas: the 3,183 m. river wharf which extends into the heart of the city, the International Deep Sea Port at Brgy. Loboc, Lapaz, for international shipping and RO-RO port covering an area of about 20 has., and the fast craft port located at the mouth of Iloilo River at Fort San Pedro for vessels plying the Iloilo-Negros route.
The city is also host of one of the most modern and largest fishing ports in the country, the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex, located at Tanza, Molo. It sits in a 21 has. reclaimed land and protected by a 390 m. long breakwater. It has landing quays for tuna boats(70 m.), trawlers/purseiners(110 m.)and bancas(200 m.)and two slipways. The port has various refrigeration facilities, such as, 2 sets of ice makers with a capacity of 25 tons/day; ice storage & cold storage buildings; 4.5 tons blast freezers; four units at 960 kgs. contact freezers and stationary ice crashers. Other amenities are the 1,400 sq.m. market halls, 225 sq.m. municipal shed, carpentry and foundry shops, fabrication, machine and electrical shop, water supply system and a ship repair building.
The Iloilo Airport at Mandurriao is one of the major trunkline aiports in the country. Its runway length is 2,100 meters and a width of 45 meters. It is designed for a 327 aircraft. Airport facilities include a Class "A" passenger terminal building, a control tower, navais shelter, power house and a fire shed. Its air navigation facilities are VOR 585 dual system, air-to-ground VHF transceiver, DME NNG 570B,among others.
In 1999, aircraft movement was recorded at 9,023 flights, while total passenger volume was registered at 644,756 (incoming, outgoing and thru passengers). Cargo volume was reflected at 6,473,551 kgs, both incoming and outgoing.
Water for the city is provided by the Metro Iloilo Water District. CY 1999 data showed water demand reaching 29,000 cu.m./day, while capacity stood at 37,525 cu.m./day. There are 13,352 water connections with a service population of about 200,000, majority of which are principally found in the Jaro, City Proper, Molo and La Paz districts.
Eletrical power is supplied to the city by Panay Power Corporation thru its 72 MW diesel power plant and the 18.60 MW power plant of Panay Electric Co. There are presently 48,986 power consumers throughout the 180 barangays of the city which posted a 52.839 MW power demand in 1999.
Telecommunication facilities operating in the city include 6 AM, 10 FM, 3 TV and 2 CATV stations. In addition, there are 4 paging operators servicing the city, 5 cellular mobile telephone system (CMTS) operators and 2 very small aperture terminal (VSAT) service operators. The city also has 5 internet service (Easycom, Camp Internet, Heritage Cyber Plaza, Sky Internet & World Tel-Iloilo) and one trunk radio (Mobilcom)provider, while 4 companies offer toll services for both local and internation, including leased lines (Bayantel, ISLACOM, PLDT & PT&T). In terms of telegraphic and telex services, two private companies operating 8 stations in the city are the major provider, while the government has 4 telegraph stations. PLDT is the major telephone provider of the city with a total of 44,112 subscribers in 1999.
The Philippine Postal Corporation operates 34 mailing centers and 14 postal offices/stations throughout the city. Print media is composed of 11 daily and weekly newspapers and 3 major magazines. There are 31 printing press and publishing houses in the city, while 28 messenger services/freight forwarders operate in Iloilo City.
