| The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is like the brain of the computer, it looks at what you want to do and then puts it into action. There Basically 3 different companys that make CPU'S. Intel: Intel makes 2 types of CPU'S, Celeron Processer, and the Pentium 4 Processer. The Celeron Processer is the cheapest but the slowest of the 2. If you want to know how fast a Celeron Processer is, then use a E-Machine (The worst of the computers sold)! You will pay between $70.00 and $120.00. The Pentium 4 Processer is the Fastest of them all!! It's pretty expencive, it will set you back between $120 and $300 dollars. AMD: AMD also makes 2 types of CPU'S, Duron Processer and Athlon Processer. The Duron is a low cost CPU, it is not only cheaper then the Intels Celeron Processer but it is also faster. The can pay between $40 and $60 dollars for a Duron. The Athlon is really fast, but it can't beat the power of a Intel Pentium 4 Processer. But if you buy a Athlon you will be saving alot of money. You will be paying between $70 and $160 dollars for one of these. VIA: VIA is non-band name company so you won't be paying much for a nice fast CPU. The VIA C3 is fast CPU, it would beat a Celeron and Duron Processer in speed any day! You can pay between $30 and $60 dollars! A GREAT VALUE!!!! Also when chosing a CPU you may want to consider the speed in Hertz. It's kinda based on what you are going to be using the computer for when you are deside which one to chose (Look at the chart below for help). Lastly you have to buy a fan for your CPU (or you could and will kill your CPU if you don't) and you need to match your motherboard and CPU with the same socket, so look out for that (When you are looking at MotherBoards and CPUS they will tell you weather it is a Slot 1, Slot A, Socket 370, or Socket A). |
