| In 1848 Nancy Dobbins Burton died, and May 13, 1849, Noel Burton married a young wife, Charlotte Clemons, born May, 1819. The children of Noel Burton and his second wife, Charlotte Clemons, were: Eliza Ann (1850-1907), Rebecca Lee 1852[3]-?), William Zachary Taylor (named for the President and born May 28, 1856), Hugh Clemons (1858-?), Joseph Johnson (1860-?), and Noel Burton, Jr. (born 1862 and died at age of 15). The family moved to Clay County, Arkansas in 1874. Noel Burton died July 3, 1875, and is buried in Mars Hill Cemetery in Clay County, Arkansas, at the old town of Crockett, near Piggott. Charlotte Burton is there and their youngest child, Noel Jr., and many others of our Burton family. William Z. (Zach) Burton ( I think he did not like his name, as he always signed his initials-W. Z.) married first January 8, 1878, to Sarah Riggs (April 28, 1859-June 12, 1888) of Alabama, in McNairy County, Tennessee. Their children, born in Clay County, Arkansas, are as follows: John Granville (October 26, 1878-1964), Robert Harrison August 8, 1880-1955), Lura Anne (December 8, 1881-?) and William Carl (March 6, 1884-1962). Sarah Riggs Burton died in 1888 and in 1899, W. Z. (Zach) married Nancy Staggs, his second wife. They had two sons, Joseph Greene and Martin Luther. I do not know the dates of birth of these two, but I know who they married. Nancy Staggs Burton died in 1895 or 96 and was buried at Mars Hill. Then W. Z. (Zach) married Maggie Wyeth, a widow, with two children, a boy and a girl. The record is that she was not in good health at the time and became soaking wet on the day they were married, contracting a cold and illness from which she did not recover. She lived only about a month and died, leaving no issue. She also is buried on Mars Hill. |
