| For several years I spent part of every summer in California with Clara and Dowin. They showed me the bestest times. One of my favorites was the Pike there in Long Beach. I loved to ride that roller coaster. The fun house with the laughing couple was a great lot of fun. I also remember going to Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm. I don't know the exact year I first went to Disneyland, but it must have been early on in their history. I'm quite sure I have pictures that have at least 1955 on them. Maybe some even before that. I definitely remember Dowin getting his appendix out. They lived upstairs in an apartment in Compton I believe. It had a pretty lawn and the prettiest magnolia tree. Then there was the duplex and the doggy named Queenie Darlene. Because Joy gave Queenie her name of Darlene. I believe that is where they lived when they had the new Pontiac with the white upholstery. Dowin took us all to Mexico and I bought a really beautiful skirt with big green flowers. The car was a two door. Each time I slid out of the back seat to get out, I smeared that green paint all over the back of the front seat. I think Dowin could have gladly shot someone at that point. I really have quite a few old black and white pictures from that time period. Some I have already shared with you. More that I should dig out and share with you. It was my pleasure to go to their vow renewal ceremony. I don't think Clara could have been much more excited than when she got married the first time. I really do love you guys! HAPPY 55TH! |
