About Rita Schwab
Weaver - Fiberartist since 1979
Born and raised in Heidelberg, W Germany. (pictured above)
As a teenager she had a strong interest in crochet, knitting, sewing, and stitching. And was a Young Artist in Painting & Watercolor.
She studied art at the Heidelberg University and transferred to the University of Tampa, South Florida, in 1973 on a scholarship.
1976 BFA Fine Arts USF Tampa Florida.
1979 MA Fiber Florida State U. Tallahassee Florida.
Teacher of FiberArts including Macrame, Spinning, Weaving, Natural Dyes, and papermaking.
About the Studio
Rita Schwab FiberArts is located in the catskill mountains of NY state. It is a small cottage industry employing up to 5 women producing handwoven articles designed by Rita Schwab.
In business for over 7 years Rita Schwab fiberarts produces Handwoven Tablelinens as the primary product line.
This includes placemats, tablelinens, and napkins.
A line of handwoven rayon chemilles including scarves, shawls, wraps as well as a few one-of-a-kind wearables.
Rita Schwab's line of interiors include chenille throws with matching pillows and berber rugs custom ordered to size.
Rita Schwab's FiberArt is an expression of her soul, which reflects her connection to ancient traditions.
Her wall art incorporates handmade paper, handwoven cloth, natural dyes, handspun yarns, and objects found in nature. Her fiber assemblages often are mounted on wood, some are wall quilts, other wall hangings. Often she incorporates metal hair and most recently photographic images. |
