Do you know the green lady
she is standing there so alone
with a torch in her hand
watching over Ellis island
where it took place so much wrong
and sorrow and pain remain even today
she used to welcome people to this free land
but that is a long time ago
it was before crime went totally out of control
because there were too many laws you should
either break or follow
and the easiest way to go
was the wide one built upon
robbing extortion stealing killing dealing
you can name anything
the dollar sign glimpsed in everyone's eyes
and we all put on our personal disguise
since we were hoping desperately for luck

On the Isle of Karmay
down in the mines in Visnes
it was here she was born
made of the best copper in the whole world
she really comes from ice cold Norway

Do you know the green lady
she is standing there so alone and afraid
with a law book pressed to her chest
but the people who should know
the best way to lead
they chose wrong and selected greed
and never thought about those hungry mouths
down in Lower East side or in Harlem or Brooklyn
or Staten Island or on Manhattan or in Jersey
in few words they did not think at all
and that is why crime spread out over
the promised land
and also to the rest of the world
since America was the big brother to everyone
so many years ago

she is standing there with tears in her eyes
and wishing that she could leave
and return to her home
but they have bolted her feet to the ground
and there is salt sea all around
she once was shining
but now she gets greener and greener
every day
because sorrow and pain
is all she can see
and it is coming from you and me
