CHAPTER 1: The Lost Kingdom
It was a cold and ghostly night. Dark clouds swept and covered the whole sky. The rain fell from drizzle to a downpour. Trees swayed back and forth, as the strong wind blew past; the trunks looked as if they would break at any time. Thunder roared as William ran through the rain looking for a shelter - nowhere  to go.
Nobody knew that the rich young man had gone away from home. He saw a huge mansion, he ran for it. When he reached the entrance of the mansion, he was totally drenched. He knocked at the old door and asked, "Is anyone at home?" The place looked quite ruined, so William expected no answer. He plucked up enough courage and went in, trying to find things to help cease his shivering. The rain and mud had crept in at the door as well as through the cracks from the wall. The so-called mansion, in fact was more like a palace. It had many rooms and tables; it even had a dining room. Except that there were countless spider webs that hung above him, a thick layer of dust on almost all the broken furniture. The rain became heavier and heavier. With strong howling wind lashing rain beating against the old roof, William was at the mercy of the cruel weather. He  could not go anywhere until the storm stopped. Being tired, he brushed the layer of thick dust on the mat with his hand. After that, he lay down on an old mat by the unlit fireplace and tried to catch some sleep after running through the dreadful storm. William, a charming and kind man, was very close to his family. He could still remember the time when winter came; he had been sitting by the fire reading a story to his young neighbour. It was an interesting story. Even his mother, Roselyn, and his brother David were listening like statues. After that, David took the book and ran to Jasmine's house, for he liked to share exciting stories with his girlfriend. However, David never came back. The next day, William went to Jasmine's house but found that she had also disappeared. He  was disappointed and sighed as he realized that two important people in his life were missing. His mother, who had searched the whole place to look for them, also did not came back after three days. He know he cannot go back to his lonely  home anymore, facing the fact that he had lost his family. William's eyes were  filled with tears, and one salty drop rolled across his handsome face. Suddenly, William, who had sharp hearing, heard a soft crying sound above him. Out of curiosity, he followed the cries, up the creaky stairs. He also missed his step twice, as some stairs was broken. Suddenly, at the third landing, William spot a pale young lady, with a chain tied to a wall, sobbing. Although that woman looked very ghostly, a golden beam of beautiful, warm light surrounded her. That encouraged William to walk up to her. The lady looked up and much to William's surprise, she was a fairy. William stared at her, completely charmed by her freshness and beauty. The young lady saw him and smiled so sweetly that William  was rooted to the ground. She asked softly, "Are you William?" William asked in a tone of surprise how she knew his name. She sang in the voice of a nightingale:
"Long ago, there was a palace that is alive and full of colorful creatures. Fairies danced through the garden full of colorful and different flowers. Plants never sprouted, leaves never fell from the trees. Fruits was always ripe and flowers reappeared soon they were picked, just as if they had never been picked at all. Rain never fell, wind never blew. There was neither sun, nor stars, nor  moon. There was only endless twilight of sliver and gold. Butterflies fluttered, like diamonds and gold. Animals roamed freely, unafraid of hunters. I am one of the twelve princesses in the fairy kingdom. We lived very happily together.
"Suddenly, all the beautiful things in the palace changed; everything, after my mother died and the evil but beautiful woman took over. She was jealous of me as I am and was the prettiest of the princesses; my long hair flows like a gold river that never stops flowing. I dance like a swan and sing full of grace as a nightingale would, and attracts everyone nearby in the palace. So she made me work as her servant when the king was not around, but I did not complain to anyone although I felt awful.
"On my sixteen birthdays, my evil stepmother Vanessa poisoned us and tried to devour me. I tried to fly but the poison melted my wings. I also lost most my fairy powers because of the poison; every fairy that was poisoned was killed and the only ones that escaped are your mother and Jasmine. Lucky, Wizard Ail who was invited to join my birthday celebration was there. He cast a spell that protected me from being eaten but he himself was caught. Vanessa cannot destroy him or his spell, for he is a very powerful wizard.
"In order to feast upon me without the wizard rescuing me, she locked him in a  mansion in the east, guarded by many demons. She then chained me to this wall until the spell wears off, as the spell only lasts for a short period of time. But, she then find out you are also a fairy and still have your powers, as your  mother passed her remaining power to you when you born as the eldest brother. You are the only fairy with enough power and hope to save this kingdom and break  her spell; but it is difficult to find where you are as you are a half-normal and half-fairy, because your mother married a mortal. Vanessa then traced and  captured your brother and his girlfriend followed by your mother. They do not  have any fairy blood any more, because they all had a mortal lover. They cannot  have anything related to fairies - one of our rules is, if a fairy marries a  mortal, the power of fairy will only be given to their first-born child. The  other reason of eating you, is you will make her powerful." "But - but why does she want to feast upon you?" asked William. "Well! If she eats me, she will stay young forever," answered the princess.
      "Princess..." said William.
"Don't call me princess, I'm Lavender!" she said shyly. "Here, take my rose! I hope this will make you remember me." Lavender took down a red rose from her hair and handed it to him. "I used my remaining power to help you find your way here; so do not let me down."
Suddenly, the squeaking door opened. "Run! Vanessa is here, go to find wizard Ail in the east, and ask him for help. Jump down by the window there," Lavender said in a rush, pointing with her free arm to the window. William lifted her fair hand and kissed it, saying, "Wait for me, my princess?" Lavender blushed and whispered, "Yes! I will!"
William smiled and jumped out the window without any fear.
