Cory was clueless on what they were talking about. "What?"
"For goodness sake, Cory, those are the Scronex Scars," said Niles weakly. "It's a mark, which a Scronex would leave on a creature before he dies. Scronexes are the most evil creatures in the whole galaxy, and you, Cory...yours bears the evilest of all - X."
"Xerom?" Cory read.
"Don't say it!" Eva hissed, flinching a little. "We don't want to hear or mention that name. People believe that the name means venom, as in poisonous and deadly. They even think that if you say the name, bad luck will fall on you or that the Evilest will come to you. He's the king of the Scronexes, feared by all creatures in the universe."
"How would you know these are Xerom - I mean, X's scars?" Cory demanded, not wanting to accept the truth just yet.
Eva pulled up Cory's sleeve and pointed at the scars. "They are glowing dark blue, Cory," she whispered. "A normal Scronex Scars are lighter, but according to what I've read, the King always gives dark blue scars. There's no doubt about it.
"But you know what those scars are for?" Cory shook his head. "A Scronex's spirit lives within these scars. He dies just after he gave a creature these scars. He will grow in the creature. Eleven years after he left the mark, he'll reborn from the same person - and that person who bears the mark will die..."
Cory clasped his hands over his head, slowly shaking his head. "You must have got it all wrong. You're just joking," he murmured, unwilling to accept it.
"Cory, we're not joking," Niles whispered. "We're sorry, buddy."
