| Night monkeys are the only nocturnal anthopoid or higher primate. Though it is nocturnal, it do not share the 'Tapetum Lucidum' (a layer behind cornea of eye reflect light and enable to see in dark) so for compensation they have large eyes, larger than any other anthropid.Their nocturnal habit has gifted them the name of Night Monkey and also Owl Monkey as their vocalization too resmble hoots of Owl. The most interesting character of these monkeys is their monogamy which is present in a few handful of primates and a very few other mammals. Ten species has been recognized.They inhabit rain forests of South America. Body Weight varies from 698g to 1230g. |
