Riquezas formed on July 30th 2004 in San Francisco, CA. The artists of this company come from very different backgrounds: among them there is a graphic designer, a flamenco singer, an engineer, two physicists, an acupunturist and a psychotherapist. What they have in common is a longing to find a way to express their artistic vena. They tried different creative paths untill they found a common one in Flamenco dance. The five dancers of Riquezas were not born in a gipsy Flamenco family where they could be exposed to Flamenco artistry from an early age. Their origin is in different countries all over the world (United States, Philippines, Spain, Italy, Argentina) and they grew up in different cultural contexts. We can say that "Riquezas dances Flamenco with an accent." A true passion moved these artists towards studying hard and forming this Dance Company.
A Flamenco show with Riquezas dance company mixes together elements of traditional flamenco dance and singing with exploration of Flamenco as a communicative dance style through which the group delineates a story-line or a concept full of emotional content. Riquezas would like to express their passion and their feeelings using the power and the wonder of the Flamenco Art. Some of their choreographies have been created by fabulous Bay Area professional dancers, some others come from the joint artistic creativity of Riquezas and great flamenco musicians.
"We hope we will succeed in communicating to you our vibrant enthusiasm and passion for this incredible Art form."
