I also cleared out space in my storage shed behnd the house and have designated it as "Gasoline Alley", where we will work on and store the "project du jour".
This should allow us to make some progress more often than working only at the lake cabin.
After I bought "Scarlett" from Uncle Milt
last December, I tried the "turn the engine" test, I realized that I had a big job in front of me. I rode PB97 to SME 3.0 (June 1998) and I used the tank, side panels, tail section
and fairing from "Scarlett" to dress "Rip" up. On my way to the SME, I stopped in Oklahoma
and saw "Rip Van Sabre, Jr", a project bike that Dave Alexander had worked on. During July he and I agreed on a price and I bought "Rip Jr." from him. Since this bike turns over, but doesn't
start,
I decided to 'promote' it to PB98. And in the process, "Scarlett" is 'de
moted' to PB99 status. I've started a seperate web page here
I've enjoyed riding "Rip" around town, and, with the fairing, even on the highway, so this bike will probably be a "Daily Driver". As such, my son and I have taken to referring to it as "DeeDee". Initially we'll probably only do
'just enough' to get it running and in use as my commuter bike.
First up, a new battery and a can of starter fluid. I found a
"Everstart" battery at wally word and charged it on the low
setting all day. The next afternoon I took off the air
cleaners and sprayed the starter fluid in the airbox. Turn
on the ignition key, hit the starter and she runs - for about
3 seconds. Spray again(a little more this time) and it runs
again - for 6 seconds. Oh, joy, guess this means I get to
pull and clean the carbs.
