| Allison was born in January 1986 when her brother Michael was 10 years of age. We didn't think we would have another child -- but there she was. We were thrilled. She was so energetic and full of life. Since she has died, I've read that it is not the quantity of your life so much that matters as the quality of the life that was lived. Allison was with us on this earth for only 15 years, but what a wonderful 15 years it was. She was a blessing to us and continues to be. All we have to do is think of her and she's with us in our hearts and minds. Allison had just gotten her learners license one month before she died in a car accident while on a trip with a school friend. There was a terrible storm and the car hydroplaned. That night still seems like a horrible nightmare. Allison met her boyfriend Tony when she joined the band at Armuchee High School. She played the trumpet and he played the drums. She thought the drums were so cool. Tony sent her a huge balloon and a dozen red roses this past Valentine's Day (February 2001) and on one of the roses was a written note stating that he would love her until the last rose had died. She and I had never seen that before and wondered what he meant, but as it turned out upon closer inspection the note was attached to a silk rose. That rose, of course, would never die. She was buried with that rose with the note attached. Our daughter had just taken a class in school that mentioned organ donation. She had that put on her driver's license and we had talked about it. One evening after she died I was wondering if we had done the right thing about donating her organs and then I walked into her room and found a magnet that stated: "Don't take your organs to Heaven, Heaven knows we need them here on earth." It was found at a time when I really needed to see it. I like to think it was a message to me from her. I believe Ali did more in her few years on this earth than many people do in a lifetime. Looking back on that now, I believe God knew she didn't have long on this earth and she had to work fast to squeeze it all in. Allison loved life, her family, animals and especially babies. She would have been a great mother. She wanted to be a pediatrician when she grew up. Her uncle Steve said he thinks she is tending to all of the babies in Heaven. We can't wait to see her again in God's time. We love you Ali. Mama and Daddy. |
