You might ask why the hell I'm doing a review on a sports game.  A half dozen different sports games come out EVERY year for the exact same sport, whether by EA, 989, or any other.  So why this one?  Cause I've been drawn in by it.

I haven't played a baseball video game since the Ken Griffey Baseball days on SNES....which was like a decade ago or more.  So I decided it was time and this was what I picked up...and I wasn't disappointed.  This game allows you to either play the game like a normal man vs. comp match up....OR you can control EVERY SINGLE ASPECT OF EVERYTHING!!!

In other words, create players, change players stats, change rosters and the like.  It's strictly one on one....of course, how would you play with three people....half the game is pitcher vs. batter.  Anyhow...the game play is real fun...this is what it looks like.
But the gameplay isn't the best part.  The best part is the extras.  There are certain rewards you can earn during the certain game types.  Those rewards give you points to buy stuff like old school uniforms, old ballparks and historic players.

I believe the pitcher in this is Cy Young and the hitter is Ty Cobb.  Those are two of the historic players.  There's Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, Rod Carew (really odd batting stance), Yoggi Berra, Nolan Ryan, Honus Wagner.  About 50 of the greatest players in history.  The one problem I had was the lack of certain players that SHOULD be in it.  Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Pete Rose, Carl Yastrzemski and some more I haven't named aren't even in there....I've never even heard of Larry Doby, but he's in there.

You can play a 120 year franchise history mode where you can play EVERY game for the professional team of your choice AND their AA and AAA teams or you can simulate them and just control the rosters based on a points instead of money system.  You don't have to allow a cap (and it is slanted like the Yankees are) but I did it.  Although I created bad players, signed em cheap and beefed up their points after.  So again I made players with my name, Bryan, Jay and Kenny.....and I got Kenny's character to look like he had a hunch (he has one in real life).

There are drawbacks.  For one, the announcers Krukow and Kuiper....just like any other announcers, they say the same thing over and over and over....I have to listen to music while I play just so I don't have to hear it.  Also...that right picture....is Jon Dowd.  He's the default left fielder for the San Francisco Giants and is basically tied with Albert Pujols (cover player) as the best non historic players.  Any guesses as to who this really is supposed to be?  If you didn't say Barry Bonds you're a fuck head. For some reason they made him a white guy with a computerized picture instead of a real one....why?  I don't know....but I looked up Barry's characteristics and changed the player so he was more Barry Bonds than "white boy."

Um......that's enough....its a good game.  Gets an 8....I'm done.
