| Vote, You Asshole This rant goes out there to any of the people who actually still view our shitty little site. And if there aren't any out there anymore. Let's hope we get some new ones. I have a lot on my mind lately. And a hell of a lot to rant about. It's time to get at least some of it out. I hate my generation. I absolutely hate them. The majority of us are just a bunch of lazy, egotistical, apathetic, ignorant shit heads. And I don't excuse myself from any of these. There are so many reasons I have for feeling this way I cannot even begin to express them all. But here's one that made me want to jump in front of a cement truck. Yesterday, I saw a kid proudly sporting a "Voting is for Old People" T-shirt. What.. the hell. It is idiocy like this that leaves me with less and less hope for the future. How do I even go about addressing something as utterly moronic as this? Well, I'll give it the old college try. After having conversations with several of my friends, I have discovered that some of them are refusing to vote in this election. That's right they are REFUSING. It is not as if they are simply too lazy. These are people who are registered. Yet they are choosing NOT to vote. One excuse I heard was "It's not like me voting is going to matter." Need I remind you all how incredibly slim the margin of victory was last election. Well I have news it's going to be just as narrow, if not more narrow than four years ago. Of course the same people argue that their one vote isn't going to affect the election. Granted their one vote will not. But consider how many people have the exact same argument. If you have one million people saying, "My vote isn't going to change anything". You get what I'm getting at. Other friends of mine are not participating because they do not fully agree with either of the main candidates. These people that I know are totally opposed to the Bush administration but do not agree with everything Kerry offers. Then simply don't vote for either. There are other candidates out there and you can always write in anyone you want. Even though it might be "throwing your vote away," at least you're expressing yourself in the democratic process that our country was founded on. I'll have more respect for someone who wrote Santa Claus in on the ballot than someone who doesn't vote at all. And to those friends of mine who despise Bush but don't like Kerry either; I know you don't want to participate in the system you don't agree with. But keep in mind that the only way to change the system is from within it. You can protest in the streets all you want but the only way to incite true change in the system is from the inside. For those of you who think this election mean nothing let me give you this one tidbit of knowledge: Whoever gets elected this term is going to have a special sway on the system of government. Within the next four years there will be two or more Supreme Court Justices retiring. That means the next president, by appointing new justices, will be able to decide which way the court "leans." Issues such as gay marriage and abortion will most likely come to the court under these new justices. It doesn't matter if you are pro choice or pro life this will effect both sides. Oh . And I guess I don't really have to talk about the little situation in Iraq, our policy of preemptive war, or terrorism now do I? So my advice to all the first time voters and youth out there: Pull yourself out of your little self-absorbed world for an hour on November 2. If you don't vote, fine. But for the next four years you have officially revoked your privilege to bitch about college tuition, taxes, gas prices, minimum wage, shitty luck finding a job, and any other future fuck up operation that we label a part of "the war on terrorism." It's time for us all to grow up and realize there is a bigger world out there than the one where we sit on our lazy asses in a dark room playing video games where nothing matters except killing imaginary people and when the Domino's guy is going to show up. Turn off the Playstation long enough to drag yourself to the polls. If I sound bitter and angry it's because I am. How are we supposed to be the future leaders of the world if we don't give two shits about anything except ourselves? Get out there. Make a difference. be an evil place. - The Master Debator |
