Details: Riobamba is the trade center of a cattle ranching area and agricultural products that include potatoes and corn. Manufactured products include textiles, handicrafts, leather goods, and dairy products. Riobamba is the headquarters of the railroad from Quito to Guayaquil. We have two regional public hospitals, an important transportation cooperatives and home of various organizations of artisans that work wood and tagua nut.

Local Cultural and Educational Facilities:
Riobamba has theaters, various auditoriums and it's known for its large folk dance and music groups. Associations of artists work in different areas like visual arts, music, folk dance, handcrafts and literature. The city is is home of two important universities: "Universidad Nacional del Chimborazo" of liberal arts and a university level polytechnic school ESPOCH (1969).

Historical Background:
Riobamba has been inhabited since 5000 years ago by the indigenous Puruha people, it was Founded by the Spaniards about 1534 and destroyed by earthquake in 1797 and rebuilt 14 km (9 miles) from the original site.
