What are the different formats of tones and how do I use them?
The tones
which do not have any alphabet in them are in Nokia Keypress format. People with
Nokia phones having composer have to directly key in those buttons in the
composer.
The tones which have alphabets in them AND also have commas (,) are
in Nokia RTTTL format.
The tones which have alphabets in then AND NOT have
commas (,) are in Nokia Composer format
I have a Nokia phone with composer, how do I use the RTTTL and Nokia Composer tones?
Download the software called 'Ringtone Covertor' from the software section, using that you can inter-convert between Nokia composer, RTTTL and keypresses.
I don't have a Nokia phone, but it has composer, can I use the tones?
Sure.. download the software called ToneSwap from the software section. You can get the keypress sequence of your phone using it.
My phone does not have composer, can I still get the tones?
Apart from using your composer you can use the tones in two more ways:
1> Data Cable / Infrared.
Buy the data cable of your phone, use the phone software which is freely available on the net and then use the tones you get from this website. You can do the same with Infrared port.
Original data-cables may burn a hole in your pocket, and trust me the ones by smaller companies are just as good. If you are in India search http://www.baazee.com for 'data cable' and you can get some of the cheapest ones over there.
2> Send through SMS.
Use the Uniring Ringtone Converter on http://cellphones.about.com to get the binary format.
Once you get the binary format, look for some place where you can SMS to your mobile and send the binary tone through SMS.
I personally use SMS at ICQ.com for that purpose, but before doing I would advise that you check whether ICQ supports your network or not.
