• 3.12.04, 6:11pm - Hell of a Try:  I'm sorry to say that the Beavers' great 2003-04 season has come to an end, but only after a close game against the University of Puget Sound Loggers in the Sweet 16.  BVU came up on the short end of a 70-66 score.

BV finishes the season with a school record 27 wins and only 3 losses.  They also have IIAC Conference & Tournament titles.  The Beavers will lose only two of this year's starters to graduation--and the team's bench has been invaluable this year--so look for the BVU to be back next year.  Congratulations to the Beavers on a great season!

Nice people.  Referee shirts.  What could possibly go wrong?

Coming soon.

At this point, I'm probably hyping this ref thing a little too much.  Don't get too excited.  I'm not that funny.

• 3.10.04, 8:26pm - The Logging Competition:    You can listen to the Beavers' "Sweet 16" game LIVE on the web this Friday beginning at 4:30pm (CT).  Just go to http://www.bvu.edu/streaming/ .  (The audio broadcast of the game will be archived on the same site.)  The Beavers are facing the University of Puget Sound Loggers, which begs the question: Who's better at felling trees... Beavers or Loggers ?

The winner of the BVU/UPS game will face either Thomas More of Kentucky or Wilmington of Ohio on Saturday at 6:00pm (CT). If the Beavers advance to that game, it will also be broadcast on the BVU website .

Coming soon: A dissertation on the lesson I learned from the fans sitting behind me at the Beavers' 2nd round game.  What happens when good people put on black and white striped shirts?

Find out soon.

• 3.7.04, 9:10pm - Beavers:
The Buena Vista University women's basketball team (of which my sister Holly is a member) has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament, thanks to a 69-61 victory over Carleton College of Northfield, Minnesota on Saturday.  The Beavers travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky this Friday to take on the University of Puget Sound Loggers from Tacoma, Washington.
